Owen 6 months & Brody 21 months

Yep I'm finally blogging!

Owen had his 6 month check up today so I wanted to write some of the things he is doing.  His checkup went well but he really didn't like the shots.  He is 19.69lbs and 27.25".  I knew he was bigger than Brody was at this age but not by to much.  Owen is such a little ham.  He is always so happy and gives the biggest smile just about everytime you look at him.  Brody is really doing good with him to.  Owen loves to stand up so I will hold him by his little hands and let him stand there and Brody comes and squeezes himself between us and will grab his hands and start pulling him.  I guess he wants him to walk already.  If Owen starts to cry Brody will take him his paci, rattle or blanket.  He recently has tried to pick him up on 2 seperate occasions and one time both of them just toppled over and bonked heads.  I figured both would start crying but neither could stop laughing.  At least they get along...for now!  My littel Owie man hasn't had a middle of the night bottle in over a month.  Yay!!  But that doesn't mean he doesn't wake up.  He started kicking his leg in his sleep.  He will pick one or both straight up and slam it down on the mattress.  After a while it will wake him up and me needing some sleep will just put him in his swing for the rest of the night.  It is driving me up the tree.  I don't understand why he is doing this.  At least I can get him back to sleep but I'm trying to get away from that darn swing already.  Hopefully it's just a stage that will be ending soon.  Here is what my little man is up to these days.

Owen's schedule
6am - 8oz bottle
9am - cereal and fruit mix
11am - 7 oz bottle
3pm - 7 oz bottle
6:30pm - meat and veggie
7:15 - 7 oz bottle
7:30 bed

  • has 3 teeth all on the bottom
  • rolls over to his belly all the time and he hates being on his belly
  • laughs all the time and it is super cute
  • loves watcing his big brother run around
  • grabs and holds onto his toys really well
  • talks all the time but he's been pretty vocal since birth
  • some 9 month clothes but mostly 12 month now
  • size 4 diapers
  • loves bath time (hopefully he will like the water as much as Brody)
  • loves his daddy (he loves me to but i guess it's just a guy thing)
  • will sit up for a while if I put him there
  • pushes himself up with his arms while on his belly
  • holding his bottle with a little help from me
He is doing really well I think!

Now for Brody!  Brody can be so sweet one second and a little stink the next.  He listens pretty well but when he wants to be hard headed he will ignore you just like his daddy does.  Brody has a little bit of hard time when we leave him.  Like if we want someone to babysit we have to sneak off when he's not looking or he will have a total melt down.  The only places he doesn't do this at is daycare and my moms.  It's kind of heartbreaking.  I guess he's just not use to us leaving him cause we don't that much.  Hopefully he will get over that.  He is such a fit thrower and so whiny that I'm hoping it's just a stage too.  He will throw himself on the ground screaming.  I just walk right over the top of him and ignore him.  Bert will make him get up and go about his way.  He is not that picky of an eater but when he decides he doesn't want to eat what we have for super he goes to bed without eating.  He is finally starting to pick up on that.
  • Brody loves his fruit and goldfsih
  • picks up all of his toys and puts them up before bed
  • covers his mouth when he coughs
  • drinks out of a big boy cup very well
  • 2T or 3T clothes
  • size 5 diapers
  • has sat on the potty a few times but has never went (at least he's interested)
  • goes to bed at 7:30 every night
  • wakes up by 6:30 (sometimes earlier sometimes later)
  • will eat pretty much anything
  • loves playing outside still
  • loves animals - any kind
  • he talks when he wants

I guess that's pretty much all for now!

Finally a Christmas post!

Bert and I decided to keep it pretty simple this year 1.) Building the house ate up a lot of money and 2.) the boys are still to young to really get the concept of it.  Just cause we kept it simple doesn't mean everyone else did.
We decided to host Bert's side of the family Christmas this year and let me tell you it was a lot of work.  Now that we finally have a house big enough to hold everyone I guess he wanted to kind of show it off.  Bert wanted to do the traditional turkey and ham and all the sides.  I made 2nd turkey on Thanksgiving and let me tell you that was the best thing I had ever ate.  I have never been a fan of turkey but let me tell you I am now.  So I got to make another one for Christmas.  Between cooking and feeding and tending the boys and trying to get my house in order to have people over I was pooped by the end of the day.  But everything turned out great and we loved the company.  The boys got quiet a bit from all of them so we enjoyed playing a little bit.

Christmas Day

Next was Christmas day morning with the boys.  Brody really started to get into it with opening presents and all so it was fun to watch.  I got him a Jake and the Never Land Pirates tent and tunnel with a ball pit on the end and he loves that thing.  We can't hardly keep him out.  After presents and stockings I made a big breakfast and we spent the rest of the morning playing.
After lunch and nap we went to my parents house for Christmas and let me tell you it looked like Toy's R Us exploded in my moms living room.  She way over did it this year but it was a lot of fun seeing the kids get all of there stuff.  Owen just kind of sat back and watched while the other 4 went crazy.  Now it looks like a tornado in my house so sometime this weekend I will be sorting through toys.

We have one more this coming Saturday and then we are done.

Family pics!

All of November we had to reschedule family pics due to Bert working or Brody being sick.  Finally we had a day.  Last minute Bert gets called out to work and it's a big job that he couldn't turn down.  Me and the boys ended up doing pictures and my mom came to help me.  Needless to say it was pretty much a disaster since Brody hates listening to me.  His daddy is the only one that can get him to act right.  Jennifer was nice enough to get us in Sunday morning to try again with daddy this time and it went much better.  Here are a few!

On a schedule!

Brody was pretty easy to get on a schedule and so far this one is taking the same path as his brother.  I honestly believe a good schedule is the way to go.  Some people think I'm crazy for sticking with it so strictly and some people agree with me.  Here is Owen's schedule right now.
3:00 am - 5oz bottle
6:00 am - 5oz bottle
9:00 am - 5 oz bottle
12: pm - 5oz bottle
3:00 pm - 5 oz bottle
6:00 pm - 5 oz bottle
Every other night bath
7:00 pm - get dressed and lotioned up for bed
7:30 pm- small bedtime bottle
8:00 pm - bedtime and sleeps until his 3am bottle.

We do sometimes get a little off on the weekend it just depends on if he wants to sleep in or not.  As far as naps he will stay awake between some feedings or take short naps.  Naps aren't scheduled yet but, hopefully, they will be soon :)  When I went back and looked at Brody's stuff Owen seems to be following along pretty well.  When I look at everything Owen is technically sleeping through the night already.  I think 5 hours is considered sleeping through the night and we have a 7 hour stretch at first.  I guess if I put him to bed at 10 or 11 he would sleep until 6 but I don't want a baby that stays up late so 8:00 pm it is!  I need some me time before I lay down which usually involves cleaning up the kitchen from supper and washing bottles.

Owen is such a good baby.  After being home a few weeks he started to get colicky.  It really got bad at night and we would be up until midnight and even after getting him to sleep he would only stay down for about and hour or 2.  It was pretty bad.  After getting tips from all my mommy friends I decided to try 2 things at a time.  They fist thing I did was switch bottles and bought this black tar stuff called colic calm.  The first nigh was already 60% better.  The second night 100% better.  I think just switching bottles did the trick cause we don't even use colic calm anymore.  One night I tried going back to Dr. Brown bottles cause the drop ins are just a pain in the butt and I won't be trying that anytime soon.  He was pretty fussy.  I couldn't believe that just switching bottles up would do that.

Ever since then I have had one happy baby :)  A couple weeks ago he started smiling and now he is giggling and all.  He is always so happy and hardly ever fussy.  Brody was never that happy of a baby.  We could always get him to smile but he would go right back to fussing every time.  Owen does have his moments in the evenings but it's just right before bedtime.  I try to make sure he stays awake after we get home and he is always tired cause he doesn't sleep much at day care.  I just love being with my boys and maybe we will try again to see if I can get my little girl.  Pretty sure I will be blessed with all boys but I do want to try :)
Here are some pics of my boys!

Baby Skoruppa # 2.....

is another boy!!!  Owen David Skoruppa!!
Ok I am way behind so bare with me as I catch you all up on everything.  I will start with the birth of my precious baby!
Owen David was born on October 16th at 1:24pm.  Here is his birth story along with his birth weight story.  My repeat c-section was scheduled for 11:00 am that day.  Of course they are always behind scheduled so we had to wait a little bit.  I was getting nervous about the c-section but it wasn't bad since I have already been through it.  The anesthesiologist came in several times giving me more meds.  At one time she came back and added some stuff to my IV and I had to drink some really nasty stuff.  Whatever that woman gave me made me totally freak out.  I started shaking and all I kept telling Bert was to get me out of there that I couldn't have this baby and I was dead serious.  I don't know what came over me.  After about 10 minutes I all of a sudden started calming down again.  Shortly after there was another round of meds.  They pumped me so full of fluids that Bert said my face just swelled up.  Mind you I didn't gain much weight with this pregnancy.  I think it was maybe around 19 or 20 lbs.  With Brody I had gained I think 34lbs.  Then before I knew it they were wheeling me to the OR.  Maybe it's just me but there sure does seem to be a lot of people in the OR room.  Maybe it's a good thing they drug you up a little before you go in cause if they didn't I would probably feel a lot more uncomfortable.  Then in walks Dr. Cook :)  I just love me Dr!!!  He comes and ask how I'm doing and then I notice my husband still isn't in there which is weird cause when Dr. Cook comes in the baby is usually out in 5 minutes.  So I asked where he was and he was just standing right outside the door.  A few minutes later Bert is standing up to tell me that it was another BOY!!!  Dr. Cook held him up and said "Dusty you have another 8lber here"!  I just have big babies!  When they went to weigh him the scale said 7lbs 14oz.  Even the person weighing him let the scale clear out and redid it cause they didn't think it was right either but it came up the same.  They got me all cleaned up and then off to recovery I went.  I never got sick after Brody but with this one they couldn't hardly move the bed.  Finally we made it to the room.  Mom and Dory were there with all the kids including Brody.  Brody wasn't to happy but I think he was just tired that day.  And now that I'm typing this we never took a family pic in the hospital.  Needless to say they didn't stay very long but I was so happy to see my big boy :)  Owen was totally different from Brody since the beginning.  Owen was so wide awake and alert already in the hospital and that child came out making noises and grunting.  He still grunts all the time and in his sleep.  It's so cute and I can finally sleep through it.  Brody slept most of the time and I don't think we even saw his eyes the first week.  Anyways back to my little Owie.  He was just perfect!  Had perfect skin, dark hair and the cutest little nose ever!  We ended up letting him go back and forth to the nursery so I could get some sleep and the hospital stay was far better than last time. They were literally in and out of our room every hour last time even at night.  This time maybe every 3 hours and some of the times I just dozed right back off while they were checking all my vitals.  The first night we had a wonderful nurse (they were really all great) and at one point she came to take Owen to take him back and check him out.  When she came back with him she said his blood sugar was kind of low and they kind of wanted to keep an eye on it and I also heard her say he was 8lbs 6oz???  What??  He was only 7lbs 14oz at birth.  So the next day Bert went across the street to get us sandwiches from the little shop and he runs into Dr. Cook at the elevators and tells him about the weight and he said I knew that boy was bigger.  Then a lady walks around the corner and Dr. Cook started getting on her about the scales in the room and how they have been wrong and needed to get fixed.  So he had our birth paperwork fixed and all.  By the next day I was ready to go home.  I felt good and had been walking around the halls and showering and just wanted to get out.  When the Dr. made the rounds that morning Dr. Cook didn't come but one of the other new ones.  She said I had to stay one more day but I'm pretty sure I would of gone crazy.  About 2ish Bert had to get out so he went for a walk and ran into Dr. Cook again and told him we wanted out.  He asked how I was and called up right away to have the ped look over Owen and if he was ok to release so was I.  By 3:30 we were on our way home!  Here are a few pics of little Owie at the hospital!

13 Mths & baby update.

13 Months Old!!

I just realized right before I titled this blog that my baby boy is 13mths today :(  It really makes me sad seeing him grow up so quick.  Here are a few things he's up to these days:

walks everywhere now.  it is so weird seeing him come around the corner walking!
eats like his daddy (his food serving are actually bigger than mine)  i don't know where he puts it.
all I've ever really heard him say is Sis (sissy our inside dog), daddy and I could swear he said bye bye the other day but Bert thinks I'm crazy.
The only milk he has is a sippy 1st thing in the morning and he doesn't let you forget to give him that.
He loves our horses.  In the mornings when we get him up and after milky he likes to play on our bed with us and the 1st thing he does is look out the window to see our  horses.  Daddy even sometimes takes him with him to feed and he gets to sit on them.
He loves our dogs.  He likes sissy the most but she can't stand to be near him.  It's so funny sometimes he thinks she chasing him and all she is really trying to do is get away but be close to me.

He is such a good baby but he will show you that attitude I swear he gets from his daddy.

Baby # 2

We went back to the Dr. on the 5th and it was pretty much the same thing.  Everything is holding up and to stay off my feet as much as possible.  I also had my 1 hour glucose which I only failed by 8 pts but they wanted me back for the 3 hr.

On the 19th I had to go back for my 3 hour and then I had an u/s.  FYI the 3 hour glucose test totally sucks.  This u/s went by fairly smooth.  Even though this child was acting crazy again the tech was pretty quick.  She got what she needed and made me a CD with the pics.  She asked if my Dr. was checking my cervix at every appt which he does but that question kind of threw me off cause I know they can look at and measure my cervix with there machine.  I didn't get to see Dr. Cook that day.

The pressure and the stabbing pains started getting worse.  Sometimes they hurt so bad that I have to sit on the closest chair or I just hunch over and wait for them to go away.  I am just so ready to not hurt and be comfortable once again.

My next appt with Dr. Cook was on Aug. 2nd.  He checked my cervix but he didn't say anything at all about it.  He told me to stay off my feet and that he was going to give me a prescription for steroid shots.  What??? Really??  These shots help develop the baby's lungs in case the baby is born prematurely.  That kind of freaked me out.  And the fact he didn't say anything about my cervix has my mind working overtime.  Another weird thing is is when he checked my cervix usually it is such an uncomfortable hurt you just can't relax, this time I didn't hardly feel anything cause he wasn't up to his elbow.   I picked up my prescription and I go back in on the 16th for another u/s and my 1st steroid shot.  Between every appt the pains and uncomfortableness gets worse and worse.  It is so hard for me to even sleep at night and I still have 2 1/2mths to go....maybe.   Anyway we will see what happens on the 16th.

I have a trip for work coming up on the 12-14th that he told I can't go on.  I think I may still drive up on the 13th to the corporate office and drive home.  And Bert has a hunting trip coming up and I am hoping nothing crazy happens to mess up those plans.

Brody's 1st B-Day!!

I'm finally getting around to blog about Brody's B-Day Party!  I posted the pics already but that was all.  One of these days I'm going to get back in order and blog regularly.  Brody's birthday party turned out awesome!  I was so stressed in trying to get everything in order but at the end it all came together.  I think everyone seemed to have a really good time including both of my kids (Brody & Bert).  At the last minute I ended up getting a big water slide and we made the mistake of telling Bert grownups could go on it.  He was on that thing before guest arrived and I had to make him get out when it was time to open presents...KIDS!  Brody received tons of great presents from family and friends!  Bert and I got him a playset with a slide and a four wheeler (my fav)!  He also received clothes, money and a lot of toys that make noise...YAY!   I was a little worried about how he was going to do since we were just getting over double ear infections that were pretty bad but he actually seemed to have a great time.  My poor baby usually never acts sick and we don't realize there's anything wrong until it gets bad.  Maybe this means he's going to be my tough little boy!  All in all it was a super day but I am not looking forward to planning another one next year.
